Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has directed immediate repair and reconstruction of Karachi’s rain-affected roads, along with the establishment of an effective drainage system to prevent future damage.

He issued these instructions while presiding over a meeting at the CM House on Friday.

Expressing concern over the extensive damage caused by the recent monsoon rains, the chief minister said poor drainage had worsened the situation. He instructed the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and town administrations to prepare road rehabilitation plans under the supervision of the Local Government Department. He made it clear that every damaged road must either be repaired or rebuilt, and no project would be approved without a proper drainage component.

Linking improved roads to urban mobility, economic activity, and public welfare, CM Shah said Karachi is the backbone of the national economy and its infrastructure must reflect that role. The mayor informed the meeting that a survey of KMC roads was underway, while the provincial local government minister said town administrations were also conducting surveys in their respective areas. These reports will be submitted to the chief minister for approval once completed.
