China-Pakistan friendship needs no introduction. The mutual understanding and bilateral trade ties between the two nations have become a charming tale known across the world. There’s no superficiality in this bond it is an evergreen and all-weather relationship.
Recently, Chinese Foreign Minister Mr. Wang Yi visited Pakistan, a visit that received significant international media attention. The primary reason for this importance was China’s clear and open expression of support for Pakistan. One of the key moments was the Chinese Foreign Minister’s meeting with Pakistan’s Army Chief, which carried great hope. In this meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to regional peace and joint development, emphasizing enhanced cooperation and shared interests.
Moreover, both nations resolved to jointly combat regional threats such as terrorism and extremism. A crucial point highlighted during this visit was that China’s relationships with third country  would never impact its relations with Pakistan. China also reiterated its unwavering support for Pakistan’s sovereignty and development.
Field Marshal Asim Munir thanked the Chinese government for its consistent support during difficult times. Pakistan doesn’t just find China by its side during crises; both countries are also committed to jointly planning future phases of development.
During the visit, the Chinese Foreign Minister held one-on-one meetings with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, President Asif Ali Zardari, and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s first visit to Pakistan after the recent India-Pakistan war. Strategic cooperation and partnership were central themes and clear statements were made in support of regional peace and stability. The China-Pakistan relationship is not based on short-term interests. It is a time-tested and durable friendship. Both nations have always stood by each other. China emphasizes regional stability, peaceful cooperation and a balanced approach though this doesn’t mean treating India and Pakistan as equals, but rather establishing an equilibrium in the region.
Interestingly, when Wang Yi visited India before coming to Pakistan, Indian media linked the visit to the historical slogan “Hindi-Chini Bhai Bhai” from the 1950s, speculating a possible revival of a strong India-China friendship. However, once Wang Yi visited Pakistan after Afghanistan, Indian media switched to propaganda mode, accusing China of playing a double game. But the reality is different. China’s foreign policy and strategic coordination both regional and global are clear and consistent. China does not play double games; it is straightforward and transparent with its allies, always promoting peace.
China also initiated dialogue with India to help promote a peaceful environment in South Asia. But if we look at the current landscape, all South Asian countries except India are either part of or inclined toward Chinese initiatives. India is the only country not involved in any of China’s regional projects, primarily because it views China as a threat and aligns itself closely with the United States.
However, the new power dynamics developing in South Asia demand a shift. India must acknowledge these changing realities and move toward mutual understanding. The upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in China offers a potential opportunity for India’s leadership particularly the Modi government to adopt a more constructive stance and promote a balanced regional atmosphere.
India’s recent aggressive diplomacy is no secret, especially after the Operation Sandur drama, which has now been exposed even in European nations. At present, India is increasingly isolated, not just in South Asia, but globally. Sometimes it rushes toward Russia, other times toward China, yet the U.S has reminded India of its limits by imposing a 50% tariff on Indian exports. In contrast, Pakistan is strategically well-positioned and has shown maturity and responsibility. Even when India imposed war on Pakistan, Islamabad responded with a well-thought-out and defensive strategy, which was globally recognized.
If the Modi administration despite the BJP’s hate-driven politics chooses to act wisely with a development-centric vision, the upcoming SCO summit could become a turning point. It would send a strong message of peace and progress to the region. The Chinese Foreign Minister’s recent visit to Pakistan was highly successful and was warmly received by Pakistan’s civilian and military leadership. Mr. Wang Yi also expressed sorrow over the recent floods in Pakistan and assured every possible assistance.
Whenever Pakistan has faced hardship be it war, earthquakes, floods, or even the COVID-19 pandemic China has never abandoned Pakistan. Similarly, Pakistan has always stood firmly by China’s side on every major front and global issue. This is a rare and powerful example of mutual cooperation in the realm of international relations.
