Widespread floods and landslides in northern Pakistan have claimed at least 344 lives within 48 hours, sparking grief and calls for solidarity from celebrities and sports figures.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) confirmed that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was the hardest hit, with 328 deaths. Gilgit-Baltistan reported 12 fatalities, while Azad Jammu and Kashmir recorded 11. Authorities fear the toll may rise as search and rescue efforts continue in Swat, Mansehra, Bajaur, Buner, Batagram, and other affected districts where homes, shops, and infrastructure have been destroyed.
Singer Asim Azhar took to Instagram, writing:
“Today, our land weeps. The floods have taken homes, dreams, and precious lives in Pakistan. My heart aches for every mother, father, child, and soul affected.” He appealed for unity and urged people to support reliable relief efforts, saying: “Together, we can help heal what has been broken.”
Former cricket captain Sarfaraz Ahmed also shared his prayers:
“Ya Allah, protect KPK, protect Pakistan. Grant shelter to the homeless, heal the wounded, and give patience to those who lost loved ones. Ameen.”
