SACRAMENTO (California): The California State Senate has paid glowing tribute to the social, educational, cultural, and community contributions of Pakistani Americans in the state by unanimously passing Resolution No. 536.
The resolution, introduced by Senator Melissa Hurtado, highlighted that after gaining independence on August 14, 1947, Pakistan established close ties with the United States and inspired nations worldwide in their pursuit of freedom, justice, and equality. Although the resolution was adopted on August 7, a special session was held on Monday to formally announce it in the presence of Pakistan’s Ambassador to the U.S., Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, along with members of the Pakistani community.
Speaking to Pakistani journalists after the session, Ambassador Sheikh said that the approval of this resolution – recognizing the remarkable role of the Pakistani diaspora in California’s development and economic growth – was proof that relations between Pakistan and the U.S. were not only built on solid foundations but were steadily growing stronger.
The event was also attended by Acting Consul General of Pakistan in Los Angeles Muhammad Mubashir Khan, President of the Council of Pakistan American Affairs Adnan Haq Khan, Dr. Irfan, Asif Haq Jinnah, Founder of TSI Engineer Maqsood Ali, Ariful Haque Arif, Co-founder CEO of veeoneHealth Ijaz Arif, Founder & CEO of iPsychiatry Dr. Jawad Arif, President of pro financials CFO Advisors Imran Zafar, Azmi Gul.and others.
In response to another question, the Ambassador noted that the New York State Assembly and senate had already passed a similar resolution, and efforts were underway to encourage other state assemblies and senates across the U.S. to do the same.
The resolution further acknowledged that the Pakistani American community, through their hard work, sacrifice, and perseverance, had transformed new settlements in California into prosperous and respected neighborhoods while raising their children to become active and productive citizens. It praised the fact that Pakistani Americans have become an integral part of mainstream American society and have made significant contributions in fields such as finance, law, medicine, education, technology, sports, media, arts, the military, and government.
It also recognized that Pakistani Americans are passing on their values, cultural heritage, and ancestral traditions to the younger generations, enabling them to contribute more meaningfully to California’s diverse cultural landscape.
The resolution concluded by honoring the services of the Pakistani American community and organizations across the state that are actively promoting Pakistani culture, traditions, and achievements.
Following the proceedings, Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh returned to Washington, D.C.
