The Balochistan High Court (BHC) on Monday granted bail to tribal elder Sardar Sherbaz Satakzai, an accused in the high-profile Dagari honour killing case in which a couple was allegedly executed on the orders of a local jirga.

Justice Iqbal Kasi approved the bail plea and directed Satakzai to submit surety bonds worth Rs500,000.

The case drew nationwide outrage earlier last month after a harrowing video surfaced on social media, showing dozens of men gathered in a remote mountainous area near Quetta. In the footage, a woman was forced to stand before the assembly and was shot dead, followed by the killing of a man moments later.

According to police surgeon Dr Ayesha, the woman suffered seven bullet wounds while the man was struck nine times. Investigators said the killings occurred in Dagari, on Quetta’s outskirts, allegedly under jirga orders.

The Balochistan government swiftly registered a case under terrorism-related charges after the video went viral. Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti condemned the incident, calling it “brutal” and a blatant violation of human rights.

Subsequent investigations revealed the involvement of the woman’s immediate family. Her brother, Jalal Satakzai, was named a prime suspect, while another video showed her mother, Gul Jan, defending the murders.
