Aishwarya Rai moves Delhi High Court over AI-generated explicit content

Actor Aishwarya Rai has petitioned the Delhi High Court, seeking protection from the unauthorised use of her name, image, and likeness in AI-generated sexually explicit content.

At Tuesday’s hearing, the court signalled it may issue an interim order to restrain platforms and individuals from exploiting her identity without consent and directed that offending links and material be taken down.

Rai’s plea states she has been subjected to morphed “unreal intimate photographs” being circulated online. Her lawyer argued that her identity is being misused “to satisfy someone’s sexual desires,” calling it deeply unfortunate.

The petition names several websites—including aishwaryaworld.com, apkpure.com, and bollywoodteeshop.com—along with Etsy, AI-powered chatbots, YouTube channels, Google, and even government bodies such as the IT Ministry and the Department of Telecommunications.

It argues that deepfake images not only breach Rai’s personality rights but also violate her dignity. She has asked the court to shield her name, voice, image, and signature style from “unsavoury misuse.”

The matter will be heard again on November 7, with further proceedings scheduled for January 15. Rai follows actors Jackie Shroff and Anil Kapoor, who recently secured court orders to protect their personality rights.
