pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha and fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi will donate their tri-nation series earnings to flood victims.
Agha announced the decision on X after Pakistan’s 75-run win over Afghanistan in Sunday’s final, adding that Afridi had joined him in the pledge. The victory was set up by spinner Muhammad Nawaz, who bagged five wickets, while Afridi took one for just seven runs in two overs.
Cricketers have been at the forefront of fundraising efforts. On August 30, Peshawar’s Imran Khan Stadium hosted a charity match where Peshawar Zalmi faced a team of retired greats led by Inzamam-ul-Haq, with Shahid Afridi, Younus Khan, Shoaib Akhtar and Waqar Younis also featuring. Packed stands contributed to the relief drive.
Since June, floods triggered by glacial melts and heavy rainfall have killed 910 people, according to the NDMA. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is the worst-hit, recording 504 deaths, including 256 in Buner district. Punjab has declared its “worst ever flood,” with 4.1 million people affected.
As floodwaters from Punjab move south, Sindh braces for more rain. Over 128,000 residents have been evacuated from low-lying areas.
