Karachi: Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sindh Sharjeel Inam Memon has said that the construction work on Jam Sadiq Bridge, an important part of the Yellow Line BRT, is progressing rapidly and the project will be completed before the scheduled time.

Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon visited Jam Sadiq Bridge in Karachi and reviewed the construction work. On this occasion, Secretary Transport Asad Zamin and Project Director of Yellow Line BRT Zameer Abbasi were also with him. Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon was given a detailed briefing on the construction activities.

Talking to the media, he said that separate paths have been made for pedestrians and cyclists on this bridge, one corridor of the bridge will be reserved for BRT while the rest of the road will remain in use for general traffic. After the completion of this bridge, the old Jam Sadiq Bridge will be demolished and a new bridge of the same type will be constructed.

Sharjeel Inam Memon said that work is also underway on the Yellow Line BRT depots. This project, after completion, will provide very modern facilities to the citizens of Karachi. This project, being implemented with the support of the World Bank, will significantly increase the city’s transport. This project will reduce traffic problems. Work is also being done at a rapid pace on the main corridor of the Red Line BRT. Double-decker buses will be brought to the city next month and a large number of electric buses will also be added.

He said that the process of giving free pink scooters to women will be started at the end of this month or the beginning of next month. Women are also being provided with free training and driving licenses, and electric scooters will be given to employed women and students.

Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the Sindh government is actively working to provide facilities to the people. The aim of the Pink Scooter Scheme is to empower women. Such an activity has never happened before in the Transport Department.

He said that Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is currently giving house ownership certificates to thousands of women in Larkana. Houses are also being built for women under the “Apni Zameen, Apna Chhat” program. On the instructions of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto, land is also being given to landless people. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is completing the biggest project in the history of the world, an example of this has never been seen before.

Sharjeel Inam Memon said that yesterday a high-level delegation of the World Bank met the Chief Minister of Sindh at the Chief Minister’s House, in which they discussed the Sindh People’s Housing Scheme. The delegation expressed satisfaction with the work of the Yellow Line BRT. On the instructions of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the Sindh government is working with full energy. Solar panels are being distributed free of cost to relieve the people from the energy crisis.

In response to a question, the senior minister said that the situation in Punjab is serious due to the recent floods, the people are facing difficulties. If the Punjab government needs any kind of help, the Sindh government is ready. If a flood situation arises in Sindh too, the government is fully prepared.

He further said that the citizens faced difficulties for a few hours due to the recent rain in Karachi, but some specific media houses took an unusual approach to it. Similar institutions are not adopting that attitude today regarding the floods in Punjab. Instead of politicizing natural disasters, the public should be informed about the facts that water takes time to drain, but the government and administration are fully present.

To another question, he said that the change in the cabinet is the prerogative of the Chief Minister and there is nothing wrong with it. There is always room for improvement and new people should be given a chance. In the meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari, the possible future flood situation and other issues were discussed. The demands for new provinces are not possible without the approval of the relevant assembly under the constitution and the Sindh Assembly will not give any such approval.

To another question, he said that the part of the Bhutto Highway that has not yet been opened to the public, if any defect is found during rain or construction work, it will be corrected. Shahrah Bhutto is a public-private partnership project, and under the agreement, this firm is responsible for the maintenance of the highway for the next 25 years. No money from the national exchequer is being spent on it. Some elements are running a campaign against the PPP Sindh government under a well-planned conspiracy.

Sharjeel Inam Memon said that clear instructions have been given that the Red Line BRT corridor project should be completed by December so that the public can get convenience. He said that Khursheed Shah is a valuable asset of the Pakistan Peoples Party. We all pray for his health and now his health is better than before.
