Karachi sees over 43,000 street crimes in first eight months of 2025

Karachi has reported 43,419 incidents of street crime between January and August 2025, with dozens of fatalities and hundreds injured in robbery-related violence.

Independent reports state that 60 people lost their lives while resisting robberies, though police figures record 53 deaths. At least 216 citizens were injured in such incidents.

Official data shows 11,268 mobile phones were snatched, 1,430 cars stolen, and 30,721 motorcycles either stolen or forcibly taken during the period. On average, the city recorded 46 mobile snatchings, six car thefts, and 126 motorcycle thefts every day.

Compared with the same period in 2024, street crimes have slightly declined. Last year, 49,615 incidents were reported, with 78 people killed and 310 injured, along with 13,406 mobile phone snatchings, 1,342 car thefts, and 34,867 motorcycle thefts.
