A young woman was killed and her mother injured in an axe attack allegedly carried out by her fiance during a domestic dispute in the Hangoora Goth area off the Super Highway, police said on Tuesday.

According to officials, the incident occurred during an argument at the residence of the victim. The suspect, identified as Gohar Ali, allegedly attacked his 24-year-old fiancee, Rasheeda, with an axe, fatally injuring her. Her mother Rani also sustained serious injuries in the attack.

Law enforcement officials shifted the body and the injured woman to hospital. The police arrested the suspect on the spot and recovered the murder weapon.

District East police spokesperson said that the axe used in the assault had been seized as evidence. DSP Sohrab Goth Aurangzeb Khattak said that the deceased suffered a fatal blow behind the ear, confirming that the nature of the injury was consistent with a deliberate attack.

During preliminary interrogation, the suspect claimed he had been chopping wood when a piece accidentally struck Rasheeda and her mother. However, police said the injuries appeared inconsistent with this account and further investigation is under way.

Officials believe the incident may be linked to an ongoing domestic dispute, and efforts are being made to determine the exact motive behind the attack.
