Pacer will focus on ODIs and Testd

Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc has announced his retirement from Twenty20 internationals to concentrate on Test cricket and the 2027 ODI World Cup.

The 35-year-old left-armer, who made his T20I debut in 2012, represented Australia in 65 matches and claimed 79 wickets, the second-most for the country in the format. His best figures of 4 for 20 came against West Indies in 2022. He was also a member of the Australian squad that secured the 2021 T20 World Cup in the UAE. Starc last played a T20I during the 2024 World Cup in the Caribbean.

“Test cricket is and has always been my highest priority,” Starc said in a statement. “Looking ahead to an away Indian Test tour, the Ashes and an ODI World Cup in 2027, I feel this is my best way forward to remain fresh, fit and at my best for those campaigns.”

Australia face a demanding Test schedule from mid-2026, including home and away series against Bangladesh, South Africa, New Zealand, India, and England, along with the 150th anniversary Test against England at the MCG. The 2027 ODI World Cup will be staged in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.
