A Pakistan Army helicopter crashed on Monday in Chilas, Diamer District of Gilgit-Baltistan, killing all five crew members on board, officials confirmed.
Diamer Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Abdul Hameed stated that rescue teams immediately reached the site and began evacuation efforts. He said the helicopter was attempting a test landing on a newly proposed helipad when the incident occurred.
While the exact cause of the crash is still under investigation, GB government spokesperson Faizullah Faraq attributed it to a “technical failure.” He described the tragedy as “regrettable” and extended condolences, noting that the helicopter had also been used for relief operations in the region.
GB Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan confirmed that the Army Aviation helicopter went down in the Hadar area of Diamer. He directed Chilas Hospital to impose an emergency and ensure the immediate availability of medical staff. Paying tribute to the martyred personnel, he said their sacrifice “is a source of pride for the nation.”
This incident follows a series of recent helicopter crashes in the country. Earlier this month, a rescue helicopter went down in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur district, claiming the lives of two pilots and three crew members during a flood relief mission. In 2024, six people were killed and eight critically injured
