Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said the provincial government has deployed thermal imaging drone technology to trace stranded residents and livestock as floods continue to submerge large parts of the province.
In a post on X, she shared thermal drone footage showing people and animals trapped by the swelling Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab rivers. The chief minister added that the Safe City Authority, using this technology, has coordinated over 800 rescues across districts including Sialkot, Sargodha, Gujrat, and Jhang.
Floodwaters have engulfed towns and villages, washing away homes, breaching embankments, and cutting off road access. Many families are sheltering on rooftops of submerged houses, while others wade through waist-deep water carrying what little they can.
The crisis has spread to Wazirabad, Kasur, Narowal, Hafizabad, Kamalia, Mandi Bahauddin, Bahawalnagar, Vehari, Pakpattan, and Sialkot. In Faisalabad’s Tandlianwala, evacuations are underway as the Ravi rises further.
Meanwhile, the Chenab’s flow at Chiniot Bridge has reached 830,100 cusecs, while the Ravi has overflowed at Shahdara, inundating Farrukhabad, Aziz Colony, Amin Park, Afghan Colony, Shafiqabad, and Maridwala.
