An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore sent ousted premier Imran Khan’s nephew Sher Shah Khan on 14-day judicial remand on Thursday, denying the investigation officer’s (IO) request for extension in physical remand.

During the hearing, IO Muhammad Ashraf Javed sought a 30-day extension to the five-day physical remand granted earlier on August 23. The IO contended that further time was required to recover Shah’s mobile phone and a mask allegedly used at the time of the incident – Shah was arrested in connection with May 9 riots – and to obtain details of his social media accounts.

The IO apprised the court that a photgrammetry test was conducted and a “wooden danda [stick]” was recovered from his possession.

The court observed that sufficient investigation had already been carried out and that tracing social media accounts does not require further custody of the accused in the “present era of technology and digital devices”.

Consequently, the court dismissed the request for further physical remand and instead sent Shah on judicial remand for 14 days, directing the IO to submit the challan within the stipulated period.

Shah, who is Aleema Khan’s son, is to be produced before the court again on September 11, 2025.

Shah was produced before the court for the hearing. His lawyers Rana Mudassar Umer, Salman Akram Raja and Taimoor, also appeared before the court. Deputy Prosecutor General Imtiaz Ahmad Sipra and DSP Legal Investigation Dr Javed Asif were also in attendance.

Shah was arrested a day after his elder brother Shahrez was arrested by Punjab Police. Shahrez was handed over to the police for eight-day physical remand.

Reports surfaced, mainly from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers and leaders, of unidentified men storming Shah’s residence in Lahore, assaulting household staff, harassing family members and taking him away, before police produced him before the court on August 22.
