A 32-year-old man in the UK claims he has been unable to sleep for almost two years, living in what he describes as a constant state of alertness.
Oliver Alvis, a former train conductor, said the problem began suddenly one night and never went away. What he first thought was simple insomnia has stretched into 21 months without rest—despite heavy sedatives and multiple treatments.
“It’s not just a lack of sleep—it’s the complete disappearance of sleep,” Alvis said. “I never feel drowsy, I never drift off. Days blur into nights, and it’s torment. Exhaustion is one thing, but this breaks you down completely.”
The condition has taken a devastating toll. Alvis says his muscles ache constantly, his vision is failing, his balance is impaired, and even his digestion has suffered. “It feels like I’m trapped in an iron suit,” he explained.
Desperate for answers, Alvis sold his home and moved in with his mother to afford medical care. He has sought help across India, Italy, Türkiye, and Colombia, trying both conventional medicine and alternative therapies—without success.
