An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday remanded Chanesar Town chairman Farhan Ghani, brother of Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani, into police custody until August 28 in a case of alleged assault, attempted murder and terrorism.

According to the FIR, complainant Hafiz Sohail Jadoon said he was overseeing fibre optic cable installation near Shahrah-e-Faisal on August 22 when Farhan and his associates arrived, questioned the legality of the work, and allegedly assaulted him. He further alleged that he was dragged at gunpoint to a nearby fuel station, detained and beaten before police rescued him.

Farhan, along with two co-accused, surrendered to police and was produced before the ATC’s administrative judge. The investigating officer sought 14 days’ physical remand, but the court granted custody until August 28, directing police to submit a progress report at the next hearing.

In court, Farhan denied the charges, claiming he neither attacked anyone nor obstructed lawful work, and that he had only questioned the digging as part of his official responsibility. Prosecutors maintained that violence against government employees justified invoking terrorism-related sections.
