A boy, 11-year-old Ahmed Raza, fell into an open manhole in Liaquatabad during heavy rainfall on August 19. His body was recovered three days later, on August 22, from the Gujjar Nullah in the Mauripur police station area.

The child’s mother stated that, on the day of the incident, Ahmed had gone out twice but returned home. However, the third time he went out, he failed to return. His family searched for him throughout the night, to no avail. On August 20, however, Ahmed’s slipper was found near a stream, but his family did not suspect it belonged to him. It was only after three days that the child’s family received news of his body being recovered.

The boy was the youngest of six siblings and held dreams of pursuing higher education.

His family demanded the government and administration take action and cover all open manholes in the city.
