KARACHI: A second postmortem of Karachi-based journalist Khawar Hussain Bajwa, whose body was discovered in his car in Sanghar district on August 16, was conducted at Liaquat University Hospital in Hyderabad on Monday.
A team of three doctors, including forensic expert Professor Dr Wahid Ali Nahiyon and Additional Police Surgeon Dr Ameen, carried out the examination for over three hours, collecting five viscera samples for lab testing.
Dr Waseem Khan, a member of the medical board, informed the media that no signs of torture were found on the body but refrained from commenting on the cause of death. The initial report is expected in two days, with the final results pending forensic analysis.
Meanwhile, a fact-finding committee led by Additional IGP Azad Khan visited Sanghar, where it reviewed the local police investigation and inspected the car and the incident site. Khan revealed that Bajwa’s mobile phone, recovered from the car, had been reset and was not password-protected. He also noted that a pistol, bullets, and SIM card found in the vehicle were sent for forensic examination.
The committee is investigating whether Bajwa had traveled alone from Karachi to Sanghar and has two days to complete the inquiry.
Bajwa’s family, particularly his father, Rehmat Hussain Bajwa, strongly rejected the possibility of suicide, calling it a murder. His elder brother, Aijaz Hussain Bajwa, also dismissed the idea, noting that Khawar had no personal or financial issues and had not shown signs of distress.
The Sanghar Press Club observed a three-day mourning period and hoisted a black flag in honor of the journalist.
