KARACHI: Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Monday declared that the government will take ruthless action against dacoits in the riverine areas to eliminate kidnappings for ransom and criminal activities.
While chairing a meeting at CM House to review the law and order situation in Sukkur and Larkana divisions, CM Shah emphasized that security in these regions must be improved. He ordered law enforcement agencies to adopt a strict approach toward dacoits and their facilitators to prevent further kidnappings.
Attended by Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah, IG Police Ghulam Nabi Memon, Principal Secretary Agha Wasif, and DIG Larkana, the meeting focused on recent operations in Ghotki and Shikarpur.
According to the briefing, 500 dacoit hideouts were destroyed between January 2024 and 2025. The operations resulted in the deaths of 115 dacoits, 208 injuries, and the arrest of 582 criminals. Eight of the most-wanted outlaws were also killed.
CM Shah instructed the home minister to ensure the dacoits’ weapons supply chain is dismantled. He raised concerns over the flow of sensitive weapons into the katcha areas and stressed the need for further investigation.
Additionally, the CM directed the IG to root out criminal gangs and strengthen efforts to stop abductions, ensuring that dacoit activity is completely eradicated.
In a separate discussion, CM Shah was briefed on the construction of a 600-bed hospital in Larkana. The CM approved plans to build two towers at the hospital, which will include services such as emergency, gynecology, cardiology, pediatrics, and surgery under one roof. The CM further instructed the chief secretary to hire a consultant for the project at the earliest.
