Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has directed all local bodies, district administrations, and traffic police to remain on high alert, and called for enhanced coordination among relevant departments and agencies to ensure timely responses following monsoon rain forecasts by the Meteorological Department.

The CM chaired an emergency meeting on Monday to assess preparedness across Karachi and other parts of the province.

CM Shah stressed that the city’s infrastructure must be fully prepared to handle the anticipated rainfall. The drainage system improvements are underway at key choke points across 44 major storm-water drains, and cleaning operations are being carried out on around 150 smaller drains under various town administrations, to ensure unimpeded flow of rainwater. He added that, alongside drainage efforts, 120 water-suction vehicles from the Water Board have been deployed in low-lying areas for immediate water clearance during downpours.

He assured that the provincial government is fully prepared to handle monsoon challenges, but round-the-clock monitoring and rapid response by all departments is essential. “Our top priority is the safety of citizens and minimising potential damage caused by the monsoon,” he said.

The Sindh government has also advised citizens to stay updated on weather conditions and take necessary safety precautions. Emergency contact centres have been established, and citizens are urged to report any issues or concerns immediately .

Rains bring relief in Thar

While Karachi braces for potential challenges, CM Murad Ali Shah highlighted the positive impact of recent heavy rains in Tharparkar. He said that local dams in Thar have filled to capacity, providing a valuable water source for residents. The rainfall is expected to benefit agriculture and daily life for communities in the region.
