ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has said that we need to plant more and more trees in a decisive manner. In a message on the occasion of the monsoon tree plantation campaign, President Asif Ali Zardari said that the tree plantation campaign is the guarantee of Pakistan’s secure future, and planting trees is the national duty of every citizen. Today, we are launching a nationwide tree plantation campaign at a time when Pakistan is facing severe threats from climate change. More than 41 million saplings will be planted across Pakistan from August to October this year. The President said that trees are a symbol of life for the environment and the strongest shield against climate change. The development of the nation depends on the protection of forests and the natural environment. Deforestation, rising temperatures and recurring floods are affecting millions of lives. Asif Ali Zardari further said that citizens should plant trees for a green, clean and prosperous Pakistan. Every tree planted is a shield against disasters and a source of life for future generations. The recent floods and rains have wreaked havoc in different parts of the country. We must make the Green Pakistan Program a success.

The President further said that all countrymen should contribute to the noble cause of the tree plantation campaign. The youth should become ambassadors of change and lead the tree plantation campaign. Farmers can protect their crops and the environment by planting trees. The media, civil society, community leaders and scholars should mobilize the public to support this national duty.
