SWAT: Minister for Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir Affairs Engineer Amir Muqam on Sunday emphasized the importance of collective national effort to aid flood-stricken Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK).

In an exclusive interview with a state news channel, Muqam urged all sectors—nation, political parties, institutions, and private organizations—to unite for the restoration of the province’s infrastructure affected by the devastating floods.

Muqam stressed that natural disasters demand a unified response, urging citizens to set aside political differences and focus on national unity during crises. “The national interest must come first in these trying times,” he said.

The Minister shared that on behalf of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, he personally visited the flood-hit areas of Buner and Swat. He offered his full support and solidarity to the people of KPK, assuring them that the federal government stands committed to providing all necessary assistance for recovery and restoration efforts.

Acknowledging the hard work of the rescue teams and law enforcement, Muqam expressed gratitude for the tireless efforts made to recover victims and provide relief. He lauded the armed forces for their vital role in disaster response, drawing a comparison with their exceptional service during the 2005 earthquake and previous flood crises.

Muqam also highlighted the critical need for the provincial government to focus on rebuilding the region’s infrastructure. “Without proper roads, bridges, and communication systems, rescue and relief operations become incredibly challenging,” he emphasized, stressing that the current state of infrastructure is hindering timely aid.

The Minister reaffirmed that the federal government is prepared to provide all necessary support, even going as far as using federal resources to assist those in need. “Serving the people during their time of distress is a national duty,” he added, underlining that political or jurisdictional concerns should not stand in the way of helping fellow citizens in KPK.

Expressing sorrow over the loss of life and injuries caused by the floods, Muqam offered heartfelt condolences to the affected families. He concluded by assuring that the federal government will continue to work tirelessly alongside the people of KPK to ensure their recovery and rehabilitation.
