ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned of widespread torrential rains across the country, with the possibility of flash floods, urban flooding, and landslides in the coming days. The monsoon activity is expected to intensify from August 17, 2025, as monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal continue to penetrate Pakistan.

A low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is expected to move westward, further enhancing the monsoon activity. The forecast predicts heavy rain and thundershowers, particularly in Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan from August 17 to 19, with areas like Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, and Hunza experiencing the most intense downpours.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, torrential rains are expected from August 17 to 19, affecting regions such as Swat, Dir, Peshawar, Mardan, and Mansehra. Punjab and Islamabad will also see widespread rain during the same period, with occasional heavy falls in cities like Lahore, Gujranwala, and Faisalabad.

Southern Punjab, including Multan and Bahawalpur, will experience scattered rains and isolated heavy falls from August 18 to 20. Sindh is likely to see rain and thundershowers, with heavy falls in cities like Karachi, Hyderabad, and Sukkur, expected to last until August 22.

In Balochistan, regions such as Zhob, Khuzdar, and Gwadar are forecast to receive rain with isolated heavy falls between August 17 and 21.

The PMD has issued warnings for flash floods in northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, and Kashmir from August 17 to 19. Hill torrents in DG Khan and eastern Balochistan may also swell dangerously between August 18 and 21, posing a risk of urban flooding in major cities like Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Lahore.

The department has cautioned that heavy rainfall, strong winds, and lightning could damage weak structures, and landslides may block roads in hilly areas. Authorities have urged the public to remain cautious and prepared as the monsoon season intensifies.
