CAIRO: Pakistan advanced to the quarter-finals of the World Junior Squash Championship men’s team event with an impressive 2-0 win against Poland at the Black Ball Club on Tuesday.
Abdullah Nawaz set the tone early with a strong performance, defeating Jan Samborski 3-1. After splitting the first two sets, Abdullah bounced back in dominant fashion, winning the final two sets 11-8 and 11-2.
In the second rubber, Anas Ali Shah faced a tough challenge from Franciszek Michniewicz. Anas won the first set 11-7 but fell behind after losing the next two. With pressure mounting, he made a superb comeback, taking the fourth set and then sealing the match with a commanding 11-3 win in the final set.
With Pakistan already leading 2-0, the third match between Muhammad Umair Arif and Mateusz Ptaszek was not required.
Pakistan will now face a tough test against England in the quarter-finals, scheduled for later today.
While Pakistan’s run in the individual competition ended earlier with Abdullah’s 3-0 loss to Egypt’s Adam Hawal in the Round of 16, the team continues to show strong form in the group stage.
