GUANGZHOU: Pakistan’s Consul General Sardar Muhammad brought a flavorful touch of cultural diplomacy to the 2025 Southern China Book Fair today, engaging in high-level exchanges and celebrating culinary connections between Pakistan and China, says a Press release.
At the opening ceremony of the mega event featuring over 1,500 publishers from China and abroad, CG Muhammad held productive discussions with leadership of China’s leading publishing houses. “We explored exciting avenues to strengthen Pakistan-China cultural exchanges through literature and creative works,” he noted enthusiastically.
The diplomatic highlight came during his address at the launch of “Low-Carbon Living: Green Cuisine at Your Fingertips” a bilingual book by documentary producer Ms. Lingling Li. “What an honor to see our beloved Biryani featured!” he exclaimed, drawing applause as he explained how the dish’s vegetarian versions maintain traditional spices while embracing sustainability.
Drawing beautiful parallels, Muhammad compared Biryani’s layered preparation to Chinese Zongzi. “Whether it’s families making Zongzi for Dragon Boat Festival or Pakistani households preparing Biryani for Eid, the spirit of togetherness is identical,” he observed, adding that such culinary connections demonstrate how “diversity enriches, but shared values unite us.”
On the sidelines, the Consul General had engaging exchanges with South and Yangcheng Evening News, discussing ongoing and future cultural cooperation between Pakistan and Guangdong. “From Peshawar’s spice bazaars to Guangzhou’s tea houses, our people-to-people connections keep growing stronger,” Muhammad told reporters.
The book fair continues through the week at the Canton Fair Complex, serving as a vibrant platform for international cultural exchange, with Pakistan’s rich heritage taking a prominent place in this year’s edition.
