HYDERABAD: On the occasion of the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Ali Raza (A.S.), a central mourning gathering was held at the sacred shrine of his sister, Bibi Maham (S.A.). Addressing the gathering, Allama Gohar Abbas Naqvi of Hyderabad said that the Syeds (descendants of the Prophet) have had a deep historical connection with Sindh, and thus, the remembrance of Imam Ali Raza’s martyrdom begins with the ties between Sindh and the Syeds, says a Press release.
He recalled that from the era of Banu Umayyah to the Banu Abbas, oppressed Syeds migrated from the Arabian Peninsula to Sindh. The first caravan of Syeds arrived under the leadership of Lady Syeda Ruqayya bint Ali (A.S.), daughter of Hazrat Ali (A.S.), marking the beginning of a long chain of migrations.
Later, Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ashtar came to Sindh with 200 members of his family on the directive of the Imam of the time. Among the caravan was the Imam’s sister, accompanied by her children. Abdullah Shah Ashtar was martyred in Sindh in 145 Hijri by the Muslim army, after which he became renowned as Syed Abdullah Shah Ghazi (A.S.).
He further stated that after 145 Hijri, during the rule of the Abbasids, another caravan of Syeds arrived in Sindh under the leadership of Lady Syeda Khadija Maham (S.A.), daughter of Imam Musa Kazim (A.S.) and sister of both Imam Ali Raza (A.S.) and Hazrat Masooma-e-Qom (S.A.). “Today, once again, the houses of the Syeds have laid out the mourning spread, and we too have come to extend condolences to the oppressed sister of Imam Ali Raza (A.S.), offering our sympathies on the martyrdom of her noble brother, the eighth leader of the Imamate, who was martyred through poisoning,” he said.
Following the Majlis, a symbolic coffin (Taboot) was taken out, accompanied by elegy recitations and chest-beating rituals, with thousands of mourners from across Sindh participating.
The Bani Farsh-e-Aza, Supreme Court Advocate Abad-ul-Hasnain, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the pilgrims of Masooma-e-Sindh (SA) from Karachi and all over Sindh, especially those who came barefoot in long walking processions.
He prayed for their deeds to be accepted in the court of the noble Lady. He also appreciated the services of all members of the Pilgrim Service Committee and expressed hope that, just as this year, pilgrims from all over the country will continue to flock annually to present their condolences to Bibi Maham (S.A.) on the martyrdom anniversary of her brother, Imam Ali Raza (A.S.).
