Turkish mountaineer Gul Noor Tambet has etched her name in history by becoming the first woman from her country to scale K2, the world’s second-highest peak.
She reached the summit at 4pm on Monday, August 11, after months of preparation and determination. Gul had arrived in Pakistan in June, first climbing the majestic Tirich Mir before setting her sights on K2.
Challenging weather in July forced many climbers to abandon their expeditions, but Gul persevered, undeterred by the harsh conditions.
Her K2 success adds to an already impressive list of accomplishments, including completing the Seven Summits, conquering over 30 major peaks across the globe, and becoming the first Turkish woman to summit Mount Everest.
A mountaineer since the age of 17, Gul now balances her climbing pursuits with her career as a marketing professor at San Francisco State University in the United States. She celebrated her K2 triumph by posting a photo from the summit on Instagram, expressing gratitude to her team.
