The United States has designated the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and its faction, the Majeed Brigade, as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) under U.S. law.

According to a statement issued by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the Majeed Brigade has also been added as an alias under BLA’s existing designation as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) entity. The BLA was initially designated in 2019 following a series of terrorist attacks.

The statement notes that since then, the BLA and its affiliated Majeed Brigade have continued to claim responsibility for multiple terrorist incidents, including suicide attacks near Karachi airport and the Gwadar Port Authority Complex in 2024. Most recently, the BLA claimed responsibility for the hijacking of the Jaffar Express in March 2025, resulting in the deaths of 31 civilians and security personnel, and the temporary hostage-taking of over 300 passengers.

The U.S. State Department said the move reflects its commitment to countering terrorism globally and aims to disrupt financial and logistical support networks for such groups.
