CCTV footage has captured a tragic accident on Karachi’s Rashid Minhas Road in which two siblings lost their lives after being run over by a speeding dumper truck.
According to police, the motorcycle carrying the victims appeared to skid—possibly after grazing another vehicle—on the rain-slick road, causing them to fall. An empty dumper, travelling at high speed in the fast lane, failed to brake in time and struck them. Their father, who was also on the motorcycle, sustained injuries.
The footage contradicts claims made by Dumpers Association Chairman Haji Liaquat Mehsud, who had initially blamed a water tanker for the incident. A case has been registered at Yousuf Plaza Police Station under culpable homicide, and the dumper driver has been arrested.
Following the accident, enraged citizens set fire to seven dumper trucks. The crowd apprehended the driver and handed him over to police. Law enforcement later detained 10 individuals on charges of arson.
In response, transporters staged a protest on Sunday at Sohrab Goth, blocking the Superhighway by parking dumpers and trailers across the road. The blockade caused severe traffic congestion, with long queues of vehicles stranded for hours.
