The ISPR chief categorically stated that there is no truth to such speculation.

Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has dismissed as false and baseless the reports suggesting that Field Marshal Asim Munir is being considered for the role of Pakistan’s President.

In an interview with The Economist, the ISPR chief categorically stated that there is no truth to such speculation, calling the circulating reports entirely unfounded.

It is worth noting that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had earlier clarified that Field Marshal Munir had neither expressed interest in the presidency nor had any such proposal been discussed.

When asked by The Economist about Pakistan’s potential response to future Indian aggression, DG ISPR said that any escalation will be met with a decisive military response.

Lt Gen Chaudhry added that India must understand it is not immune, and that its actions could have serious consequences. The army spokesperson said that Pakistan is prepared to respond militarily to what he termed Modi’s state-sponsored terrorism.
The statement comes in the backdrop of rising tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors following the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam incident, after which India blamed Pakistan for orchestrating the attack. India launched an attack on Pakistan on May 7. Relations sharply deteriorated, eventually triggering a four-day military conflict.

During the brief war, Pakistan’s retaliatory strikes inflicted significant damage on India’s strategic infrastructure, destroying air bases, missile defenxe systems, and shooting down six Indian fighter jets, including four Rafales, as well as several drones.

Following the conflict, a ceasefire agreement was reached through the intervention of the Trump administration. However, India has so far refused to acknowledge the role Washington played in brokering the ceasefire, despite President Trump publicly referencing it more than 30 times.

Separately, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi last month commented on ongoing disinformation efforts targeting top Pakistani leadership.

He stated that the authorities know exactly who is behind the malicious campaign aimed at President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and the Chief of Army Staff.
