China urges foreign politicians to stop supporting ‘Taiwan independence’ separatist activities

BEIJING: China on Friday urged foreign politicians visiting Taiwan to immediately stop interfering in China’s internal affairs and to refrain from supporting “Taiwan independence” separatist activities.

In response to Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te’s “Taiwan independence” remarks, Guo Jiakun, a spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry, said China consistently and resolutely opposes any form of official engagement between the Taiwan region and countries having diplomatic relations with China.

Whether their erroneous words and actions are motivated by selfish interests or the sinister plot of “using Taiwan to contain China,” those politicians miscalculate and will surely be doomed to failure, as China’s complete reunification is an irreversible trend, the spokesperson said.

Noting Lai’s address called white black and confused right and wrong, Guo pointed out Lai peddled the false narrative of “democracy vs. authoritarianism,” repeated the same old fallacies for “Taiwan independence,” and distorted and challenged historical facts and international consensus.

The spokesperson added that these words once again exposed his true nature as a fervent troublemaker, danger-creator, and warmonger.

Guo reiterated that there is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of the Chinese territory. “This is the real status quo across the Taiwan Straits.” He further stressed that the biggest threats to peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits at present are the separatist activities for “Taiwan independence” and external interference.

“The Lai Ching-te authorities made up various disinformation in an attempt to seek ‘Taiwan independence’ and resist reunification through military buildup,” Guo added. He warned that such moves would only push Taiwan toward the danger of military conflict. “To maintain cross-strait peace and stability, one must uphold the one-China principle and unequivocally oppose Taiwan’s independence.”

Guo emphasized that this year marks the 80th anniversary of both the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, as well as Taiwan’s restoration to China, which he described as an important outcome of that victory.

“Once and for all, UNGA Resolution 2758 resolved, politically, legally and procedurally, the issue of the representation of the whole of China, including Taiwan, at the UN.

Guo said, “It solemnly confirms and fully demonstrates that the one-China principle is not only the iron rule that must not be bent but also an absolute principle that is part and parcel of the existing international order.”

Any attempt to tamper with historical facts or challenge Resolution 2758 amounts to a challenge to China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, the UN’s authority, and the post-war international order, he noted.

Such actions blatantly reverse the course of history. They are not only ridiculous but also extremely dangerous,” the spokesperson added.
