The majestic nineteenth-century Frere Hall opened its verdant lawns Sunday night to a spellbinding spectacle of Sufi devotion.

Under a canopy of stars, the city paid a resonant tribute to the towering figure of Islamic poetry and music, Hazrat Ameer Khusro, on the occasion of his 770th anniversary. He was a mystic and a spiritual disciple of Nizamuddin Auliya.

It was an evening where the rhythmic pulse of tradition merged with the city’s modern beat, reigniting the flame of its rich cultural heritage.

The air was thick with reverence as the renowned Abu Fareed Qawwal Group took the stage. Their rendition of Khusro’s kalaam-a unique blend of Persian, Hindavi, and Arabic-enchanted listeners, transporting them to the mystic realm the Sufi poet pioneered centuries ago. The melodies, echoing off the historic stone of Frere Hall, served as a powerful reminder of Karachi’s artistic history. This moving cultural revival was orchestrated by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), demonstrating its commitment to promoting art and literature in the metropolis.
