The Pakistan Meteorological Department has said that the severe cyclonic storm Shakti over the west-central and adjoining northwest Arabian Sea has weakened into a cyclonic storm over the past six hours.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD)’s latest advisory issued on Monday, the system is now centred near latitude 19.6°N and longitude 60.4°E, about 910 kilometres southwest of Karachi. It is expected to move east-southeastwards over the same region and further weaken into a depression within the next 24 hours.

Under its influence, isolated light rain is likely in the coastal areas of Sindh and Balochistan on Monday (today). Sea conditions are predicted to remain high to very rough, with squally winds reaching speeds of 70 to 90 kilometres per hour along the Sindh coast.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the deep sea until October 7 due to dangerous sea conditions. Gale-force winds near the system’s centre may reach 80 to 90 kilometres per hour, gusting up to 100 km/h, before gradually weakening.

The PMD’s Cyclone Warning Centre in Karachi continues to monitor the situation and will issue further updates as necessary. Relevant authorities have been asked to stay informed through PMD advisories.
