A moderate earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale struck Quetta and adjoining regions on Sunday evening, according to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre. The tremors were felt in several parts of Balochistan.

The epicentre was located about 65 kilometres west of Quetta at a depth of 25 kilometres. No reports of casualties or property damage have been received so far.

The quake follows a 3.2-magnitude tremor recorded in Karachi’s Malir area four days earlier. The region has experienced frequent seismic activity due to its location near the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plate boundary.

Last month, a 6.0-magnitude earthquake hit eastern Afghanistan, killing over 2,200 people and injuring thousands. Tremors from that quake were also felt across several Pakistani cities, including Islamabad, Peshawar, Murree, and Lahore.
