Police attack on National Press Club; Hundreds of journalists protest, Fazlur Rehman also arrives

ISLAMABAD: A massive protest was held on Friday evening under the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFJ) against the raid and hooliganism by the federal police on the National Press Club. Maulana Fazlur Rehman also reached the rally to express solidarity.

According to Express News, hundreds of journalists led by PFUJ President Afzal Butt protested outside the National Press Club and later took out a protest rally to the Shaheed-e-Millat Secretariat.

Speaking on the occasion, Afzal Butt said that black flags are being hoisted on press clubs across the country on Friday against the police atrocities on the National Press Club, Islamabad. Press clubs are the second home of members. Friends from all over Pakistan have contacted the officials of press clubs. All friends say that the attack on the National Press Club is an attack on all press clubs.

He said that today PRA has walked out of the National Assembly, the government said that PRA should bring its demands, our problem is not that two or four policemen should be removed or an FIR should be registered, we will not be satisfied with that, we are making a charter of demands on how to protect the Press Club.

JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, while talking to journalists at the Press Club, said that I strongly condemn the hooliganism of Islamabad Police on the National Press Club, we are with the journalist community, journalists are peaceful people.

PFUJ President Afzal Butt thanked Maulana Fazlur Rehman and said that Maulana always morally supports the journalist community in every difficult time.
