ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmaker Abdul Latif Chitrali, convicted in the May 9 Ramna police station case, surrendered before an Islamabad court on Friday.
A surrender application on his behalf was submitted in the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Islamabad, where he appeared before the Court No 2 Judge Tahir Abbas Supra to formally present himself for arrest.
In the application, ex-MNA Chitrali stated that the Peshawar High Court (PHC) had directed him to surrender before the relevant court.
Responding to his appearance, Judge Supra remarked with a touch of irony, “Latif Sahib, you delayed much, but it is good that you have now appeared.”
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) disqualified Chitrali on July 29, 2025, under Article 63(1)(h) of the Constitution, declaring his National Assembly seat, NA-1 Chitral, vacant.
The decision was announced by a five-member ECP bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, following a reserved verdict in the disqualification reference against him.
On July 3, 2025, the Islamabad High Court acquitted and ordered the release of four PTI workers who had been convicted in the same May 9 Ramna police station attack case. Abdul Latif Chitrali has served as MNA from 29 February 2025 to 29 July 2025. He was elected to the National Assembly as an independent candidate supported by PTI from NA-1 Upper Chitral-cum-Lower Chitral in the 2024 Pakistani general election.
