The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a rain alert for most districts of the province, warning of possible flooding in streams and nullahs due to expected heavy rainfall. The alert, issued on Thursday, follows the arrival of westerly winds in northern Punjab, bringing widespread rain from Thursday night until October 7.

The areas affected include Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, and Wazirabad. Showers are also expected in Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha, Jhang, Nankana Sahib, and Toba Tek Singh. Thunderstorms are predicted for Dera Ghazi Khan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Multan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Rajanpur, and Rahim Yar Khan until October 6.

The PDMA has issued warnings for rising water levels in local streams in Rawalpindi, Murree, and Galiyat. Authorities have instructed local commissioners and deputy commissioners to stay on alert, while departments including agriculture, irrigation, health, and transport have been asked to prepare for potential impacts.

Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel, adhere to official guidelines, and cooperate with rescue services. In case of an emergency, citizens can contact the PDMA helpline at 1129.
