DUBAI: The United Arab Emirates has made significant changes to its visit visa system, introducing four new visa categories and updating income requirements for residents sponsoring visitors. The revisions, announced by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP), aim to boost transparency, attract skilled professionals, and strengthen the country’s economic diversification efforts.
Under the new rules, residents must meet specific income criteria to sponsor visitors. To sponsor immediate family members, the minimum monthly salary is set at Dh4,000. However, sponsoring second- or third-degree relatives requires a monthly income of Dh8,000, while sponsoring friends mandates a salary of Dh15,000.
The new visa system introduces six categories, including permits for specialists in fields like artificial intelligence, entertainment, event participation, and tourism through cruise ships and leisure vessels. Additionally, a humanitarian residence permit has been introduced, which is valid for one year and renewable under certain conditions. Foreign widows and divorcees can also apply for residency without a sponsor, with renewals subject to defined rules.
Other notable changes include the introduction of a business exploration visa, which requires applicants to demonstrate financial solvency or involvement in overseas business operations. Truck drivers can now apply for single or multiple-entry visas, provided they meet specific requirements such as financial guarantees, health insurance, and fees.
Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Director General of the ICP, highlighted that the new regulations are based on extensive studies and consultations with stakeholders, and are designed to make the UAE a more attractive global hub. These reforms are expected to stimulate sectors such as technology, transport, trade, and tourism while enhancing the overall quality of life for residents and visitors.
