Punjab food department launched a crackdown on wheat hoarders, seizing more than 10,000 bags of illegally stored wheat from various warehouses and rice mills in Dera Ghazi Khan.
Three cases were registered and two shops sealed during the operation.
The action was carried out under the supervision of District Food Controller (DFC) Khadim Hussain Faraz, accompanied by Assistant Food Controllers Saadat Nawaz Baloch, Naveed Khalid Sandhu, Rana Bin Yameen, Food Inspector Rana Ghulam Murtaza and their team, with the support of the Para Force.
Raids were conducted at three private factories located along Jampur Road and Taunsa Road.
During the operation, around 2,000 wheat bags were recovered from one warehouse, 4,000 from a rice mill, and several thousand more from other storage sites.
In total, over 10,000 bags were seized and sealed for being hoarded in violation of the law. Authorities confirmed that further legal proceedings against the hoarders are underway.
Speaking to the media, DFC Faraz said that soon after assuming charge, he initiated the crackdown on the orders of the Director General Food.
“In the first phase, over 10,000 bags of wheat have been seized and three FIRs registered,” he said.
He appealed to the public to report any information about large-scale illegal wheat storage so that wheat and flour could be made available to citizens at official rates.
Faraz further stated that inter-provincial movement of wheat is strictly prohibited, and checking at entry and exit checkpoints has been tightened.
