Senior journalist and TV anchor Imtiaz Mir, who was shot near Malir Kala Board last week, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday after a week in hospital. Police said an FIR was registered at Saudabad Police Station, but no arrests have been made so far.
The Karachi Union of Journalists, MQM-Pakistan, and other groups expressed grief, terming the killing a direct attack on press freedom.
CM Murad Ali Shah and Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon offered condolences, vowing to bring the attackers to justice and ensure protection for journalists. Mir’s family will announce details of his burial later.
