UBAURO: Road connection between several villages was severed after a bridge built over Dahar Canal came crashing down near Ubauro in Sindh.
The situation especially created inconvenience for the children, who now have to walk two to three miles to reach their schools. The administration in Khairpur has closed an overhead bridge for traffic after large craters developed on it due to heavy rains.
The bridge’s closure has upset people and transporters since it connects Karachi and Sukkur.
On the other hand, people have said that poor-quality material is used to cover these cracks due to which they later reappear. On the other hand, floods have caused widespread devastation in Punjab.
Over 100 villages have been badly affected, while crops grown over 100,000 acres of land have been destroyed in Bahawalpur due to unprecedented floods. In Jalalpur Pirwala, floodwater has even washed away the tunnels of the motorway.
On the other hand, a section of the motorway, from Sher Shah to Uch Sharif, has not been opened for traffic even after the passage of two weeks.
Despite the fact that dozens of homes and crops were destroyed in Karampur, a suburban area of Mubarakpur, near Bahawalpur, after the River Sutlej burst its banks, the Punjab government has turned a blind eye to the miseries of the people due to which they have been forced to spend their days and nights out in the open. The residents have appealed to the provincial government for help.
Same is the situation in Luddan, where the locals complain about the government’s inaction. The River Sutlej continues to be in low flood at Arifwala where the miseries of people show no sign of abating.
Meanwhile, the Rescue 1122 employees have so far transported over 18,000 people and more than 3,000 cattle to safe locations.
