KARACHI: Former Prime Minister of Malaysia, H.E. Tun Dr. Mahathir Bin Mohamad, reflected on the deepening ties between Pakistan and Malaysia and underscored the enduring and evolving relationship between the two countries. He emphasized that the foundation of strong bilateral ties lies in shared values, mutual respect, and collaborative efforts across sectors.
In a special video message, Dr. Mahathir extended heartfelt greetings and warm congratulations to the Pakistan-Malaysia Friendship Association (PMFA) on the occasion of its 4th Appreciation Awards Ceremony 2025. He reiterated that strong bilateral ties are built on shared values, mutual respect, and cooperation across sectors.
Dr. Mahathir also expressed deep gratitude to the people of Pakistan for their kind wishes and “doa” on his recent 100th birthday. He acknowledged Shahid Jawed Qureshi, President of PMFA, for his leadership and unwavering commitment to fostering friendship between the two nations.
Reflecting on PMFA’s 19-year journey, Dr. Mahathir remarked, “When two different groups of people are able to remain together for 19 years, it has every right to claim to be a friendship association.” He also commended PMFA’s role as a dynamic platform that brings together business leaders, professionals, and visionaries, contributing significantly to bilateral trade, investment, and people-to-people connections.
Concluding his message, Dr. Mahathir called for continued nurturing of ties between Pakistan and Malaysia, rooted in trust and a shared vision for a brighter future. He urged that such bonds must continue to grow through new opportunities and shared challenges to remain meaningful and impactful.
In response, Shahid Jawed Qureshi, President of the Pakistan-Malaysia Friendship Association (PMFA), expressed sincere appreciation for Dr. Mahathir’s message and reaffirmed the strength of Pakistan-Malaysia relations.
“Pakistan and Malaysia must work together to expand trade opportunities, explore new economic avenues, and enhance cooperation in all areas of mutual interest,” Qureshi stated. “It is through collaborative efforts and a shared vision that we can take this journey of friendship to new heights.”
