No trace has been found of a woman who allegedly jumped into a stormwater drain in Mobina Town’s Metroville-III area near Gulshan-e-Iqbal last Sunday. Police have registered a case against her husband, Hasnain Shah, under sections including culpable homicide, and taken him into custody.

SHO Mobina Town said that the search for 26-year-old Mishal Karim, daughter of Fazal Karim, is ongoing and will resume Monday morning.

The incident occurred around 2am on September 14, with eyewitnesses reporting that the woman jumped into the drain. Mishal, a physiotherapist at Jinnah Hospital, had been married to Shah for several years, but they had no children.

After the incident, Mishal’s father lodged a case against his son-in-law, alleging that his daughter was subjected to mental torture and abuse due to her husband’s alleged affair with a bank employee. Karim claimed that his daughter was driven to desperation and jumped into the drain.

He further said that his daughter would regularly contact him but did not respond for two days starting September 11. When she finally contacted him on September 13, her voice seemed unusual, and a video call revealed she had a cannula attached to her hand, indicating she was unwell.

He further alleged that Mishal informed him about her husband’s affair. He claimed that his daughter was pushed to the point where she felt compelled to run away and eventually jumped into the drain.

The police have collected a bloodstained tile from Rashid Minhas Park and taken DNA samples from Karim for investigation.
