In a telephonic conversation with Express News, Gender Interactive Alliance (GIA) President Bindiya Rana, condemned the murder of the three transgender individuals and claimed that since 2022, a total of 56 transgender people have been killed across Sindh. Calling this “the height of cruelty,” Bindiya claimed that transgender people are among the most marginalised in society and continue to face issues related to housing, food, access to identity cards, and employment.
She lamented, “people have now stopped inviting transgender people to celebratory events. In the past, transgender individuals used to earn a livelihood by performing dance and music at such functions, but that source of income has nearly vanished. Now, more than 90 per cent of transgender people are surviving by begging.”
Further, the GIA president said that just a few days ago, a transgender person was stabbed and injured at Sea View, and now three more transgender people have been murdered. She asked, “what was the fault of these individuals who were so mercilessly killed?” She stated that consultations among the community are ongoing and that they would soon announce their course of action at a press conference. She also revealed that provincewide protests will be held.
