COLOMBO/ABU DHABI: Suranga Wellalage, father of Sri Lankan all-rounder Dunith Wellalage, has passed away in Colombo, reportedly from a heart attack.
Dunith Wellalage, 22, is currently in the United Arab Emirates representing Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup. Considered one of the country’s brightest young cricketing prospects, he played earlier today in Sri Lanka’s match against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi.
In a tense finish to the game, Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi struck five consecutive sixes off Wellalage in the final over.
