Work halted on Green Line’s second phase

A fresh row has erupted between the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and the federally funded Pakistan Infrastructure Development Company Limited (PIDCL) after Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab ordered a halt to construction on the second phase of the Green Line project, a Rs30 billion federal initiative. The disputed section extends from Guru Mandir to Municipal Park.

According to Express News, KMC officials argued that the work had commenced without obtaining a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the municipal administration, prompting the mayor to stop the contractor’s operations. Following KMC’s intervention, the contractor suspended all work and pulled staff from the site.

PIDCL officials, however, rejected the claim, stating that an NOC had already been issued on October 12, 2017, signed by the Superintendent Engineer of KMC’s Engineering Department (I&QC). They termed the mayor’s move “unwarranted” and insisted that federally mandated projects could not be halted on the basis of verbal directives.
