Ayesha Omar’s ‘Lazawal Ishq’ faces backlash, boycott demands

Pakistani actress Ayesha Omar’s upcoming dating reality show Lazawal Ishq has ignited controversy after its teaser went viral, with critics calling for a ban and urging the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) to step in.

The teaser introduces eight contestants — four men and four women — living together in a luxury villa in Turkey, with their interactions recorded as they search for “eternal love.” Omar, 43, is seen exploring scenic locations in bold western outfits while describing the show as an emotional journey.

PEMRA clarified that the program lies outside its jurisdiction since it will stream exclusively on digital platforms rather than television channels.

Modeled on popular formats like Love Island and Too Hot to Handle, and inspired by the Turkish hit Aşk Adası, the series is planned to run for about 100 episodes featuring tasks, alliances, eliminations, and a final winning couple.

The show has sharply divided opinion — with detractors branding it “immoral” and launching boycott campaigns, while others remain intrigued by Pakistan’s first experiment with the dating-competition genre.
