4.8 magnitude earthquake jolts parts of Punjab

An earthquake was felt in several areas of Punjab, including Multan, according to initial reports received by the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) from all districts of the province.

The earthquake was recorded at a magnitude of 4.8 on the Richter scale. Its epicenter was noted 126 kilometers west of Multan at a depth of 55 kilometers, according to the PDMA spokesperson.

DG PDMA said administrative teams across Punjab are inspecting buildings following the tremors. PDMA’s Provincial Control Room and all District Emergency Operation Centers are on 24/7 alert, he added.

This marks the second earthquake in Punjab this month, with a previous tremor recorded on September 4.

A powerful 5.9 magnitude earthquake rattled Punjab, Islamabad and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), triggering panic as residents rushed outdoors when tremors shook multiple cities.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the quake was recorded at a depth of 111 km, with its epicentre in Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region.

Strong shocks were felt in Peshawar, Mansehra, Hangu, Abbottabad, Swat, Attock, Malakand, Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
