Afghanistan fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq has been ruled out of the ongoing Asia Cup in Dubai due to a persistent injury. Abdullah Ahmadzai has been named in his place.

According to Cricinfo, Naveen-ul-Haq was included in the Asia Cup squad despite missing the tri-series in the UAE.

A press release issued by the Afghanistan Cricket Board said that Naveen is recovering from a shoulder injury and the medical team has not declared him fit.

The statement said that Naveen will continue his treatment and rehabilitation process until he is fully fit.

Abdullah Ahmadzai (who was on the reserve list for the Asia Cup) was part of the Afghan squad in the tri-series played in the UAE before the event, where he played the only match against the UAE and took 1 wicket for 31 runs in three overs. In total, he has taken 15 wickets in 11 T20 matches.
