Authorities in Karachi, Pakistan, have apprehended a man suspected of being part of a larger network of child abusers who have operated for at least a decade. The suspect, a local fruit vendor, was caught after a disturbing discovery led to his arrest by Defence police.

According to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Syed Asad Raza, police now have video evidence of the extensive abuse. A mobile phone recovered from the suspect’s possession contains hundreds of videos, leading investigators to believe there could be more than a hundred victims.

The suspect’s activities came to light when a victim managed to take a USB drive from him. The victim took the drive to a local shop to download music, but the shop owner found the explicit content and alerted local residents. The residents detained the suspect and turned him over to the police.

After the police were notified, they recovered the USB and the mobile phone. Parents of the victims were then contacted and have filed three formal complaints. A special police team has been formed to investigate the case, which involves victims as young as seven years old. The suspect had allegedly lured children since 2019, first as a grocery store owner and later with a juice cart. An alleged accomplice has also been identified and is being sought by the police.
